No So Subtle Noises In the Next Room

2002-10-15

We were diving into convertation
Without a wet suit
Pretending to ignore the cat-calls
Of our veins
We forgot for an instant
That our paths are often
Too parallel for us to cross
Without causing a lot of damage
So we yearn to reach out
And strangle each other with tenderness
Yet held back
By fear of a reoccuring nightmare
Not that we ever got much sleep anyway
But when the dynamic dreams of yesturday
Froze into shards of stagnant reality
It seemed to steal
Any heat that we had
But we can't fall apart
Over a loose spring
In our lives
We just have to go on
Knowing that what we shared
Others will only dream of touching
