Of course I enjoy my writing, likely more than anyone who reads it. What I meant was that it is impossible to write in a public forum without being at least somewhat conscious of your suidence--and usually it is in those ver entries where one rails against the audience that the comment about writng only for yourself is made. It's the ONLY that's a problem, and to me, dishonest. If someone spends hundreds of dollars on banner ads, they are not just writing for themselves. It isn't a bad thing--but it's reality. Roethke said that anyone who claims to write without an audience in mind is either a pathological liar or mentally unstable. Indeed.

Again, I think we agree, fundamentally--the only issue for me is that when you use it for therapy on a diary website, you put it out there for others to read, and if it were PURELY for personal use, would probably lock the diary or entry. Most of these diaries, mine included, are acutely aware of how many people read them. It is just these diaries which claim not to be, however. Which irks me. There is no shame in what we do, so why try to place one diary over another in the "real" category? And god, I would love someone to point out flaws in a constructive way--that would be brilliant! But no, most folk and review sites stick to blathering. So be it. But one ought not to present this, or online diaries as a whole, as though they existed in a vacuum.

here is your livejournal code that i promised you: svkngaabfpqy just go here: http://www.livejournal.com/create.bml to start your journal. oh and since i saw the comments that Cat was making, you can make all of your entries in lj as personal or public as you want them to be, its completely up to you. there is even a method for filtering your audience so that only the people you want to read a certain entry can. once you get going on lj i would suggest you download web client for lj, it makes it all much easier to post and check on certain things. Semagic is the absolute best in my humble opinion. (that is you can get it if you use windows platform, they haven't made Semagic for mac yet)
